Video: New Ex Position Switch Can Withstand Temperatures Down To -60 ° C

The switchgear has been tested and approved in accordance with ATEX and IECEx for use in gas Ex zones 1 and 2 and dust Ex zones 21 and 22. And they can be used at temperatures down to -60 ° C, which places high demands on the housing construction and sealing. For example, it must be ensured that the high degree of protection of the switchgear (IP 66) is maintained after these 7-joule shock tests below these minus temperatures.
Housing made of high quality plastics
For this reason, the stable housing is made of high-quality plastics, the glass fiber reinforcement of which partly has a textile structure. In addition, the sealing of the housing cover is vulcanized over the entire surface, which guarantees the tightness of the cover after an impact load. When sealing the switching plunger, the steute developers have implemented a redundant sealing system that consists of an external, low-temperature-compatible sealing sleeve and an internal Teflon sealing ring.
The sealing materials are approved by the manufacturers down to -95 ° C and the lubricants down to -75 ° C. There is therefore a sufficient “safety margin” to the approval temperature of -60 ° C. This gives users in the offshore "Oil & Gas" industry, for example, the certainty that the new position switches will work reliably even under real extreme conditions.
Versatile
Due to the extensive range of actuators (plunger, roller lever, rotary lever, key spring) and the compact dimensions, the Ex standard switches, which are available with snap action and slow action, can be used in a variety of ways and can be easily integrated into the surrounding construction. And thanks to the protective-insulated plastic version, there is also no connection to the common earthing and potential equalization system.
With their property profile, they are suitable - especially because of the large temperature range - for querying the position of flaps, valves, lids and other moving components, for example in systems in the oil & gas industry (onshore and offshore) and in the shipbuilding and port systems sector. Other areas of application are handling systems on oil drilling platforms and the position query on the booms of cranes. Safety-related applications, for example on maintenance flaps and protective doors, are also possible. (jv)
