It should discharge the capacities to the desired safe voltage level in a manageable time. The discharge unit with the type designation SDU-200 absorbs an energy of approx. 200 kWs with a discharge power of around 1400 W. The maximum housing temperature at around 20 ° C reaches around 55 ° C.
According to Koch, the SDU is suitable for direct integration into any combination of capacities, for example in large DC intermediate circuits. It is supplied with a suitable DC switch to which a second SDU can also be connected - if more power and thus more energy consumption or shorter discharge times are required. The switch is provided with a contact that reports whether the SDU is switched on or not. Another overload-protected resistor is installed for an emergency discharge that can also be switched.
According to the company, the SDU is a well thought-out peripheral product for DC circuits with large capacities, which is itself overload-proof and provides security for maintenance personnel.
