Delphinium

Larkspur likes to grow in sunny beds, the soil of which is nutritious and evenly moist. A generous amount of humus from the compost to the start of the growth phase in spring thanks the delphinium with strong growth and many flowers.

Practical tip: Because of the towering flower spikes is the Delphinium in midsummer strong kink at risk: Choose for the Larkspur therefore a sheltered spot in the bed (in walls and the garden fence) or tie the flowering shoots before the bloom on trellises fixed.

Sow delphinium

The best time to sow Delphinium seeds is in late summer, when the Delphinium would also sow itself (if you let the faded things stand). New sowing of delphinium in the open is possible from May to September. Pre-breeding on the windowsill is possible from spring: Warning: Delphinium is a light germ - the seeds in the cold frame must not be covered with soil!

The main heyday of the Delphinuims is June and July. For a second flowering, cut off the faded shoots about ten centimeters above the ground before the seeds form - at about the height of the leaves. The delphinium will bloom again from September.

As an autumn cut, shorten the hardy perennial close to the ground. Now is the time to rejuvenate and increase the delphinium by dividing the root ball.
