Robodrive motors are used whether robots interact with people on production lines, carry out high-precision operations in the hospital or maintain aircraft - wherever space is limited and lightweight construction is required, but at the same time maximum precision and dynamics must be achieved.
These motors were developed by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) specifically for the needs of robotics. Robodrive drive technology, manufactured by TQ Systems GmbH, has been available as a commercial product since 2005. "Our motors have the highest torque density on the market," explains Dipl.-Ing. Manfred Schedl, Head of Mechatronics in the TQ-Drives division at TQ Systems GmbH. “Values such as synchronism, dynamics and optimal thermal connection are geared towards the particularly high demands of robotics. That means the motor design is optimized for holding loads and for maximum dynamics when accelerating.”
The compact and robust Roba Servostop safety brakes from Mayr power transmission are used in the motors. With their extremely slim design and low weight, they too are tailored to the requirements of robotics and easily withstand the demanding environmental conditions. After switching off the power or in the event of a power failure, the brakes ensure that the axes are held securely and reliably in any position, thus ensuring maximum operational safety.
Stator and rotor as a kit
With the stator-rotor installation kits of the ILM series, the so-called servo kits, the Robodrive technology offers individual solutions for structure-integrated drive technology. "The servo kits are designed in the applications directly at the customer, adapted to the most diverse drive tasks," explains Manfred Schedl. “Our customers develop their own actuators based on these servo kits. We also offer to develop customer-specific overall solutions."
The advantages of the stator-rotor installation kits are, in addition to the low weight and the compact installation space, above all in the hollow shaft design, which enables signals, media, beams and cables to be carried out as well as the integration of gear elements, spindle nuts or optics. In addition to servo kits and housed solid and hollow shaft motors, the Robodrive range includes geared motors from the RD-HD and RD-PG series, which are characterized by an industry-leading power density. In order to save installation space and weight, the planetary gear (RD-PG series) or the harmonic drive gear (RD-HD series) are integrated directly into the motor housing, as well as various position sensors.
