Video: Autonomous Electric Vehicle "Oasis" In Detroit Can Be Experienced By Everyone

A visionary outlook on the urban mobility of the future can currently be seen at ZF at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit: For the first time, the E-Mobil Rinspeed “Oasis” can be seen by a wide audience.

The Swiss Frank M. Rinderknecht, founder of Rinspeed, wants to rethink mobility with the “Oasis”. Despite, or perhaps precisely because of his love for the automobile, the environmental balance sheet is at the forefront for Rinderknecht, which is why his concept is an agile speedster with an integrated allotment garden behind the windscreen. The car visionary contradicts the idea of SUVs as a means of transportation in the urban jungle. Because "Oasis" is a small, self-driving scooter for the city and the surrounding area. Different partners such as ZF contributed their ideas to the vision.
The "Intelligent Rolling Chassis" (IRC) from ZF forms the basis for this vehicle. The IRC is a ready-to-drive platform concept for urban passenger and transport vehicles, from the axle-integrated electric drive to the chassis and the innovative steering. The mobile pedestal is agile and should be prepared for the autonomous city traffic of the future with the help of intelligent networking.
In the "Oasis", ZF ensures interaction between occupants and the vehicle during automated driving with a buttonless, interactive single-spoke steering wheel and active occupant protection systems that act as human-machine interfaces. (kj)

How Clever Heat Management In An Electric Vehicle Can Increase The Range

A newly developed composite material can significantly lower the inside temperature in the electric vehicle. In addition, the new structure saves energy, which is necessary for the operation of an air conditioning system. This in turn benefits the range of the vehicle. The Fraunhofer LBF shows how this works in the EU research project Optemus

How An Autonomous Vehicle Makes Moral Decisions

How does an autonomous car make a decision in the event of unavoidable accidents involving several people? If necessary, does it sacrifice its own occupants if potential victims are spared? To answer this question, scientists have investigated the moral behavior of people in accidents
Autonomous Research Vehicle Drives Safely Without Light In The Dark

Ford is testing autonomous Ford Fusion research vehicles in complete darkness in the United States. The vehicles can drive without headlights thanks to the use of lidar sensor technology and 3D maps. The tests are carried out as part of the Smart Mobility Plan, with which Ford is driving forward-looking topics
