Prof. Peter Post, head of research at Festo, was appointed to the Science Council by the then Federal President Joachim Gauck on a joint proposal from the federal and state governments. The science policy committee advises the Federal Government and the governments of the federal states on issues relating to the content and structural development of universities, science and research.

Help shape the Science Council from a user-oriented perspective

His three-year term in the Science Council began on February 1st. With his new appointment, Prof. Dr. Post one of eight public figures who belong to the committee on a joint proposal from the federal and state governments, and one of the 32 members of the Scientific Commission. It is the task of the Science Council to develop recommendations for the substantive and structural development of science, research and higher education as well as to help ensure the international competitiveness of German science.

"It is a great honor to be appointed to the Science Council together with other people from the field of science and research," says Post. "I am pleased with this appointment and the opportunity to help shape the further development of the content from an application-oriented perspective"

Peter Post started his professional career with training as a toolmaker. He then studied mechanical engineering at the University of Siegen and did his doctorate there at the Institute for Mechanics and Control Engineering. He has been working in various research and development functions at Festo AG & Co. KG in Esslingen since 1989, and is currently Head of Research.

In 2010 he was awarded the German Future Prize by the Federal President for the Bionic Handling Assistant. Esslingen University of Applied Sciences appointed Post as an honorary professor in 2012. The 57-year-old is also active in various networks and clusters in production-related industrial research. (kj)
