Video: New Servo Drive System To Simplify Project Planning

According to Siemens, the inverters are equipped with integrated safety functions and should enable fast project planning. The connection to the higher-level control takes place via Profinet and the simple commissioning via web server and one-button tuning. According to Siemens, Simotics servomotors can move small loads highly dynamically and medium and large loads very precisely. The motors are connected to the inverters via one cable connection (OCC). The main areas of application are machines for packaging, handling such as pick & place, wood and ceramic processing and digital printing.
Designed for highly dynamic control
According to Siemens, the range of functions of the Sinamics S210 focuses on the highly dynamic control of the motor axes. The connected control such as the Simatic S7-1500 or S7-1500T with its extended motion control functionality takes over the entire positioning function for the connected drive axes. The converter is commissioned completely using an integrated web server. With the one-button tuning, the control parameters can be optimized automatically, taking into account the behavior of the connected mechanics across different dynamic levels.
The integrated safety functions include STO (Safe Torque Off) and SS1 (Safe Stop 1). Both can be controlled via Profisafe, STO also via a terminal. Further functions are in preparation. In combination with the fast scanning and control algorithms of the Sinamics S210 encoder system and the combination of low rotor inertia and high overload capacity, the servo motors achieve very high dynamics and precision, according to Siemens. At the Hanover Fair at the end of April 2017, the company is showing corresponding motors with shaft heights of 20, 30 and 40 mm.
Particularly thin line
When the Simotics S-1FK2 motors are connected to the converter via OCC, the power wires, encoder signal and brake are combined in a now particularly thin cable with a diameter of only 9 mm and only one connector. With its small cross-section, the OCC cable is, according to Siemens, thinner, lighter and more flexible than previous power cables, which would simplify installation.
There is also a compact single-cable cable for drag chain applications, which reduces the bending radius to almost half the space compared to regular drag chain cables, according to Siemens in its release. With a height of 25 mm, the connector is easy to use, rotatable and still robust. The cabling on the converter is carried out via user-friendly, self-locking plugs and easily accessible, removable push-in terminals on the front. (jv)
