Children prefer to play outdoors, especially in summer, but at noon the fun of playing is often interrupted by the sun shining too strongly. The solution: a sandpit with a roof ! The sunroof, which can be lowered and tilted, optimally protects the little ones from UV radiation. So you can play through into the evening. At night and when not playing in the sandpit, the roof can be lowered as a cover. So the sand is always protected from contamination.

Sandpit with cover

The sandpit with roof consists of two parts: the actual sandpit and the roof with awning. The box itself consists of a simple frame that is screwed together with a square connector. We used spruce wood as wood. However, since spruce is also not as weather-resistant as lacquered, such as teak or robinia wood, you should choose the type of wood according to how protected the sandpit is in your garden. Practical tip: To protect the sand from plants, attach a film or a fleece in the sandpit.

Treat the wooden surface

Before you assemble the sandpit with cover, you should treat the wood accordingly. First break the edges. To do this, use 120 and 180 grit sandpaper at a 45 ° angle. Also treat the surfaces with sandpaper - 120s then 240s. Then water the wood with a sponge and gently remove any excess wood fibers with 180-grit sandpaper.

After sanding, the wood can be glazed. First apply the glaze, then insert an intermediate sanding with 240-grit sandpaper and finally glaze again.
