Video: Use Classic Tools Correctly
Technical brushes are classic tools. Maximizing tool life has therefore always been a central aspect in the development work of manufacturers such as Kullen-Koti. However, it is also up to the user to significantly increase the service life of the brushes by observing safety instructions and expert handling. This not only lowers tool costs, but also has a positive effect on process reliability and product quality, and reduces production downtimes. Here they act as deburring tools, there as conveying elements and elsewhere they serve for surface cleaning - technical brushes are at work in all branches of industry today and take on different tasks depending on the variant and area of application. Companies are constantly working onto continuously improve the load capacity and service life of the brushes through new trim materials and design improvements. However, the user himself can do a lot to keep the functionality of the brushes used in the optimal range for a long time and to minimize their degree of wear. Kullen-Koti gives its users a number of useful practical tips.

Check first, then start
Anyone who uses rapidly rotating tool brushes for surface finishing or deburring their components should always remember to fix or clamp the brush only with a suitable holder. When working with shaft brushes, it is also important to ensure that the brush is clamped as short as possible - this ensures optimal concentricity and precise guidance of the brush. And never forget to check the condition of the brush before pressing the start button on the machine or tool. If it is damaged, both the workpiece and the clamping device can be damaged. In addition, flying parts can cause injury.
In addition, there are two important technical parameters to keep in mind when using brushes: the speed or peripheral speed of the brush and the immersion depth. These two aspects have a direct impact on the quality of the results, productivity and brush life. The peripheral speed depends on the brush type and the machined workpiece or material. Many brushes have very characteristic speed ranges in which they achieve their optimal effect; too low peripheral speeds often reduce efficiency. The peripheral speed can be increased not only by increasing the spindle speed on the machine, but also by increasing the brush diameter. In principle, the recommended safety speed that is on the brush,is stated on the label or on the packaging.
Wire brushes are "top executives"
With regard to the correct immersion depth, it should be borne in mind that wire brushes are literally "top performers". That means they only work with the tips of the trimmings. For this reason, it is sufficient to guide these brushes to or over the surface or the workpiece only with a small immersion depth. Immersion depths that are too high can damage the workpiece and considerably reduce the life of the brush.
Anyone who also takes the manufacturer's tips for correct storage to heart will enjoy his brush for a long time. There are only a few basic aspects to be observed that immediately light up: on the one hand, store in a dry place so that they cannot be damaged by moisture, acids or other media; on the other hand care must be taken to ensure that the brushes cannot deform during storage.
If the recommendations are followed consistently, the service life of technical brushes can be significantly extended and costs can be significantly reduced. At the same time, the user makes a valuable contribution to improving product quality and process reliability. And ultimately, not only the users, but also the quality management should be happy about that. (br)
