Video: Cabling In Buses Is Subject To Special Fire Protection Guidelines

As far as the interior of buses is concerned, the European regulation ECE-R 118 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe applies. Accordingly, the materials used must meet certain requirements that prevent or at least delay the development of flames so that the vehicle occupants can safely leave the vehicle in the event of a fire.
The directive mainly concerns buses for passenger transport with more than eight seats, such as buses and coaches. The cables and wires installed in it contribute significantly to the risk of fire spreading. The increasing data traffic in the vehicles alone, for example the installation of entertainment systems in long-distance buses or even simple timetable information systems, is increasing their importance.
Helukabel has therefore successfully presented a range of products for testing at Dekra. According to the company, the products have passed the special flame test for use in the interior of buses according to ECE-R 118 in accordance with ISO 6722-1: 2011.
Helicopter cable products according to UN / ECE-R 118:
Single wires - H01N2-D, Helutherm 145, LifY, LiYv, H05V-K, H07V-K
Control cables - JZ-500, H05VV-F, H07BQ-F, H07RN-F
Data lines - Tronic (LiYY), Tronic-CY (LiYCY), pair-Tronic-CY, Dataflamm, Dataflamm-C pair
Communication cables - Industrial Ethernet, Helukat according to category 5e, 6A and 7, S / FTP, SF /uTP flexible and highly flexible, coaxial cable RG58
Can bus cables PUR
Vehicle cables - Helutruck 270/272/273, Helutruck 271
In the flame test, depending on the cross-section of the wire, a piece of cable is exposed for 15 s (2.5 mm²). After removing the pilot light, the fire on the cable sheath must extinguish itself within 70 s and at the latest 50 mm before reaching the cable end. This ensures that a local fire on the cable sheath does not spread like a fuse and that other parts of the vehicle are on fire. (sh)
