Video: Regenerative Energy Storage System For Tokyo Tama Intercity Monorail

The E3 Solution System from GS Yuasa consists of two different types of lithium-ion batteries: The high-performance LIM25H-8 battery with extraordinary charging and discharging characteristics is used to absorb the energy that is released when the train brakes. In normal operation, it is used to compensate for voltage fluctuations in the network. The lithium ion battery LIM50EN-12 is especially designed to deliver a certain power over a longer period of time. If an emergency arises, it should supply the passenger train with energy until it has reached the nearest station as part of an emergency journey.

Run-flat tests successfully carried out
According to the company, the unique feature in Japan is that if the emergency battery is completely discharged, it is possible to switch to the high-performance cells in order to use their capacity for the continuation or an additional emergency trip. Tests of the system have shown that emergency driving up to 20 km at a speed of <15 km / h is possible with both batteries. The test runs were carried out with passenger trains consisting of four wagons. The system is designed to last 15 years.
Lithium-ion batteries from GS Yuasa are suitable for use in various applications. In addition to automotive applications, they are used in various industrial applications, but also in mass energy storage solutions. In addition, the lithium-ion cells are predestined for special applications - such as in driverless driving systems or hybrid cranes. (sh)
