The fresh air in the Allgäu climatic spa of Bad Oberdorf / Bad Hindelang is everyday life for the Blanz family. Her wish was to get this fresh air in her own house and in the holiday apartments. That is why the healthy living material selection played a major role in the conversion and expansion of their beautiful old house in Bad Hindelang. Barbara Wiedemann, Baumit The house was built around 1750. For many years it was used for agriculture, including as a cooper craft business. In the northern part of the building were the workshop rooms where wooden barrels were made. The living quarters used to be in the western part of the building, and the stable with the threshing floor above in the east. In the living area there is a complete wooden beam construction, which is still well preserved today. Master plasterer Simon Blanz brought this out and prepared it in many places. The boiler room and laundry room are now located in the area of the former stable, which was built from quarry stone masonry. The overlying threshing floor was also converted into living space a few years ago. It was important to the Blanz family that the historic character of the house should not be lost in the energetic renovation. For her, the renovation had an ecological and healthy aspect. Only wooden insulation materials were used for the facade insulation and the interior. All interiors were plastered with healthy mortar. The combination of old brushed wooden walls and the natural product lime not only give the rooms a healthy living climate, but also spread an authentic ambience. For their guests, they wanted to create the perfect place for those looking for relaxation and people who appreciate that certain something. Pure lime and wood The "Beargzit" house (Beargzit = mountain time) is constructed in a way that was previously common for the Allgäu Alps: the so-called knitted wood construction. With this block construction, the walls consist of superimposed squared timbers, which are "knitted together" in the sides by the corner bandage. The inside and outside walls were always plastered, which was evident from the old wooden nails. The mature old plaster inside was completely removed, including the plaster base (rabbit wire). Here, after the renovation, the selected pure lime plaster was partly applied again on brick-raster plaster base in thicknesses between 20 and 40 millimeters. The high and very different plaster thicknesses were due to the unevenness of the old surface. Of course, some cracks also appeared in the concealed installation. However, an accomplished craftsman like Simon Blanz knew how to handle this well. Cracks in the concealed installation after it has been used indicate that the material has shrunk over the entire thickness of the render. After a sufficiently long service life, a fabric was installed in the pure lime plaster applied as a top coat. In part, the exposed wooden plank walls in the interior were no longer plastered. Instead, they are literally staged by the surrounding white plastered surfaces. Clay wall as storage mass Two walls were constructed using clay. 25 mm thick clay building boards serve as a heat storage mass and additional moisture buffer. The clay building boards were wetted, then primed with clay adhesive slurries and a plastered layer of fine clay plaster with a thickness of five millimeters was provided with embedded tissue. After drying, the base coat was given a two-millimeter layer of clay plaster. The clay plaster surfaces, like all others in the house, were painted white with an interior silicate paint. In the holiday apartments in particular, the interior was partially realized with plasterboard. These also received a lime plaster structure. First, a natural white, fine lime plaster was applied, then the surfaces were given a pure lime plaster coating. The right choice of materials creates a healthy living atmosphere. Only plaster materials were used in the "Beargzit" house, which have been tested at the eco Institute in Cologne for safety in relation to residential health. The finely felted or finely textured surfaces give the rooms their harmonious ambience, balanced between tradition and modernity.
