Airless Smooth Tiles: Rational Processability, High Cost-effectiveness And Attractive Appearance

In the new Holiday Inn Express in Wiesbaden, over 3,500 square meters of wall space were covered with an innovative airless fleece. The smooth fleece is not only convincing due to its rational processability and thus high cost-effectiveness, but also due to its attractive visual result.

At the client's request, the wall surfaces of the newly built Holiday Inn Express Wiesbaden should be homogeneous. Theo Demant, site manager and master painter of the commissioned painting company Theo Demant, was faced with the challenge of dressing the total area of over 3,500 square meters in the best possible way, both optically and functionally - within tightly defined deadlines. In exchange with Michael Huttenhuis and Marcel Baumann from wholesaler Späth Knoll, he decided to use a paintable non-woven covering. Thanks to its innovative properties, the smooth nonwoven enables a coating in the airless process with extremely little time and effort. This makes it ideal for use in large objects.

After the cut, in which the painters benefited from the good cutting behavior of the airless fleece, it was quickly and easily glued to all plastered walls and plasterboard stud walls using wall adhesive technology. "We saw the high quality after drying: all seams remained closed, a white-pigmented, very uniform surface was created that was excellent for further processing," Demant recalls.

Efficient coating

The smooth fleece was able to fully exploit its advantages, particularly when it came to coating. Since the special nonwovens have well integrated fibers, the surface is extremely solid and therefore very smooth. As a result, the fibers - unlike conventional cellulose nonwovens - do not stand up when they are coated using the airless process. The unsightly "pilling" on the surface is a thing of the past, the tedious additional effort by intermediate sanding or re-rolling is no longer necessary. "The time saved was immense," said Demant. “We were able to inject room by room without having to rework. The resulting surfaces were super fine after only one application of paint and showed no rolling structures."

The Airless fleece also won over the professionals in combination with other products. Both the adhesive behavior and the paint application using the airless spray process went smoothly. "Especially in hotel construction, we have to make sure that we guarantee the best possible conditions in terms of hygiene," says master painter Demant. The selected wall color has wet abrasion class 2. In combination with the smooth fleece surface, this ensures very good cleanability. "The use of airless fleece is recommended wherever high-quality surfaces are to be implemented efficiently, economically and with a long life," concludes Michael Huttenhuis. "In addition to its excellent economic advantages and ideal user experience, we always draw the attention of customers and planners to the 'invisible' added value:The fleece is not only free of PVC and plasticizers, but also moisture-regulating and permeable. In other words, we don't make the walls 'tight' with the cladding through the fleece. On the contrary, we create the basis for pleasant, healthy living space in the guest rooms that are used alternately.”
