Whiteboard Paint Doesn't Have To Be White: It Can Also Be Colored

With a whiteboard paint, entire walls can be converted into a writing surface. Contrary to what the name suggests, the walls do not necessarily have to be white - light colors are also possible.

How about pastel blue, red, green or factual gray for your large-format painting or writing surface on the wall - because the term "whiteboard" does not necessarily have to be a program. "Sometimes a plain white wall surface just doesn't fit into the rest of the room concept," says Johannes Gerdes, Product Manager Lacquers and Glazes at Brillux. For this reason, the company developed a color selection for its whiteboard paint. "For more freedom of design," says Gerdes. The originally white, writable coatings can be mixed in light colors using the Brillux color system.

Whiteboard paint: easy to clean

The two-component polyurethane-acrylic coating has a high level of adhesion, hardens quickly and, according to the manufacturer, is not only low-odor, but also resistant to saliva and sweat. The most important property of a whiteboard coating is, however, a very good cleanability.

In the 2-component coating, this is due to a particularly closed surface. After writing with standard whiteboard markers, it can be cleaned dry or damp with a microfiber cloth.

Ideally, the whiteboard paint should be applied to a carefully prepared surface that has been papered with smooth fleece. If a particularly smooth, even surface appearance is to be achieved, the wallpapered surface can also be removed with a thin layer of latex plastic (and sanded) before the coating is built up. This is followed by priming with an epoxy primer.

In just a few steps to the writing board

The mixture of master lacquer and hardener mixed and repotted shortly before application is applied evenly with a microfiber ink roller. For a fine surface finish, a paint roller consisting of a mixture of polyester and microfiber yarn should then be reworked. Paint brushes with synthetic bristles are suitable for painting. When trimming with the paint brush, the manufacturer recommends carefully re-rolling the surfaces as part of the roll processing.

In order to achieve an optimal result, a careful mechanical sanding is required between each work step, even after priming. After sanding, the surfaces should be dusted thoroughly. Seven days after the last work step, the surface is fully hardened and can be labeled.

Whiteboard paint plus magnetic fleece: simply attractive

Where the whiteboard surface should not only be writable, but also serve as a pin board, the whiteboard color can be combined with a magnetic fleece.

If you want to create such a multifunctional whiteboard surface, a

magnetic fleece is applied to a prepared, smooth surface in the first step. This is followed by priming with an epoxy primer. Then an

intermediate coat is applied with the whiteboard paint. After sufficient drying, the top coat follows with the same.
