Norbert Haefke: The FVA Workbench is a calculation platform for a wide variety of questions when designing a drive system. The software bundles leading calculation methods for individual machine elements up to the entire drive system, which have been developed for almost 50 years of research within the expert network of the Research Association of Drive Technology eV A variety of calculation methods according to national and international standards, classification societies and older regulations are also integrated. Haefke: The FVA Workbench is an effective tool for all engineers, designers and calculation specialists who are employed along the entire production chain of a drive system. Thanks to the intuitive operation and the wide range of services, the calculation platform helps both occasional users and experienced experts to process their everyday tasks quickly and efficiently. The FVA Workbench supports various user levels and views so that the software can be tailored to the respective task area.
construction practice: How do designers benefit from the platform?
Haefke: Designers benefit from a range of calculations that is unique in this form. From the initial design to the special application, the FVA Workbench offers extensive functions and support that make work in everyday practice significantly easier. In order to optimize the visualization of results, the FVA Workbench in the new Release 4.0 shows 3D models for the first time using a CAD core. Results can thus be checked visually by the detailed, geometrically correct representation. The high-quality, animated display allows complex movements and power flows to be intuitively penetrated. In addition to supported open interfaces, the gear model can be converted into external CAD programs in the further product development process by exporting the 3D model to a SAT neutral format.The context-sensitive help system allows inexperienced users to gradually familiarize themselves with the calculation topics. The system is therefore also a kind of electronic training platform of the FVA.
construction practice: Which new calculation functions do users expect in the recently introduced version?
Haefke: The scope of calculations of the FVA Workbench is constantly being expanded in collaboration with the best research institutes and leading companies in drive technology. Innovations in Release 4.0 include the modeling of free planetary levels such as B. Ravigneaux and Wolfrom theorem, the consideration of cross influences in planetary gears and shaft-in-shaft bearings as well as the calculation of the dimpling capacity according to ISO TR15144. The calculation of the flank fracture, the friction torque for rolling bearings according to FVA 701 (at the Institute for Machine Construction and Tribology at Leibniz University Hannover, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerhard Poll) and the strength of shafts according to DIN 743 (at the Institute for Design Sciences) were also expanded and Technical Logistics at the Vienna University of Technology, Prof. Dipl.-Ing.Dr.-Ing.Michael Weigand).
construction practice: What has changed with the operating functions?
Haefke: The operating concept has been completely revised and optimized for Release 4.0 of the FVA Workbench. Thanks to new control options and support, users benefit from trend-setting optimization in the user-friendliness, productivity and quality of the calculation platform. The new input logic is aligned with the calculation goals. Only the data required for the respective calculation target are displayed and structured in clear tabs. The operating system also responds to user input and reports incompleteness. The FVA Workbench 4.0 automatically bundles the functionalities of the FVA computing modules to match the calculation target. In this way, the user receives consistent calculation results in the shortest possible time.
construction practice: So the user does not have to be a proven calculation specialist?
Haefke: The answer here is very clear, no. The FVA Workbench 4.0 is aimed specifically at users who have not studied the FVA calculation modules for years. The new operating concept enables newcomers and occasional users to quickly familiarize themselves with the FVA calculation world and to use the software directly in daily practice. Above all, the newly created knowledge management platform FVA-KnowledgeBase and the context-sensitive help support this. These integrated tools give users precise information and illustrations of the input fields as well as access to calculation examples, tutorials, FAQs and much more.
