Video: SLM Solutions Builds New Production Facility For Additive Manufacturing

In order to supply customers quickly and reliably, SLM Solutions is building a new production facility, a logistics center and an administration building in Lübeck. The ground-breaking ceremony for the new company headquarters took place in the Estonia ring at the end of December 2016. The general contractor Goldbeck, the board of directors Uwe Bögershausen, the state secretary Frank Nägele from the Ministry of Economics, Labor, Transport and Technology of the State of Schleswig-Holstein and the mayor of the city of Lübeck, Bernd Saxe, were also present.
Manufacture prototypes and serial parts
"We want to bring production and logistics up to date and improve existing processes," explains CFO Uwe Bögershausen. The new company headquarters are located in Lübeck-Genin on a factory site of 70,000 m² with motorway access. The new building creates a tailor-made manufacturing environment for the machines for additive manufacturing of series parts and prototypes.

The buildings, built in an energy-optimized design, are to house production, development and logistics on 13,000 m 2 of hall space. The company headquarters is supplemented by a 5000 m 2 transparent office building. With the spatial expansion, an expansion of the team currently comprising 310 employees is also planned. According to the company, commercial jobs are expected to double.
A first customer delivery from the new production facility is expected to start in March 2018. Around 400 employees are said to be employed at the new location. According to the company, the cost of the 18,000 m² construction project is 25 million euros. (kj)
