Igubal Pillow Block Bearings Convince In Continuous Operation In 70-year Simulation

According to Igus, the share of renewable energies in the electricity sector rose last year by over 16% compared to the previous year. For the solar industry, among other things, this means that more and more modern solar parks with automatic and maintenance-free tracking systems are required. Igus has developed the Igubal pillow block bearing ESQM-110 especially for such applications, with which square tubes with an edge length of 110 mm can be stored without lubrication. Both the housing made of robust Igumid G and the inner spherical cap made of wear-resistant Iglidur J4 consist of a lower and an upper part for easy assembly and disassembly. Despite its low overall weight, the solution should be suitable for storing very high loads.

Passed the simulation in the test laboratory

"In order to reliably simulate the life of the pillow block bearing, we set up a permanent swivel test with a load of 1.5 t on the bearing," explains Thomas Preißner, Igubal Product Manager at Igus. “Normally, the solar systems swivel only once a day. In our test, we simulated an operating time of 72 years with one swivel per minute - even after that there were no significant signs of wear on the bearings.”

Due to the movable spherical cap, it should be possible to compensate for misalignments on the profiles in very large solar parks. In addition to the solar industry, the pillow block bearings are also interesting for other areas of application such as X-ray devices or washing systems. In order to give the different customers flexibility in their construction, Igus also offers the option of receiving individual versions for other square dimensions on request, delivered from one week.
