With a diameter of 22 mm and a height of 23 mm, the latest addition to the Posital kit encoder portfolio has an ultra-compact form factor. This means that the new encoders are around 40% smaller than the company's classic servo and stepper kits with a 36 mm board. The new 22 mm kits are ideal for particularly compact servo and stepper motors, but also for use in smaller robots or the increasingly popular cobots, according to the manufacturer.
Energy self-sufficient thanks to Wiegand sensors
The significantly smaller footprint was not only made possible by the use of even more compact components such as the four Hall sensors and the 32-bit microprocessor. According to Paulus, major drivers in miniaturization are further advances in the design and manufacture of Wiegand sensors, which guarantee energy-self-sufficient supply to the counting electronics during multi-turn operation of the magnetic encoders - without any gear or batteries and completely maintenance-free.
Sensors
Sensors enable energy harvesting in the smallest of spaces
The encoders are characterized by shock and vibration resistance and tolerance to moisture. Their electronic resolution is 17 bits, for multi-turn operation up to 32 bits. They are available with the open, manufacturer-independent interfaces SSI and BiSS C.
The new product is scheduled to be rolled out in mid-2020.
Book tip
The book industrial sensors describes the development and practical application of the most important sensors. Through application-related error analysis of measuring systems, sensors and sensor systems, each supplemented by many detailed, fully calculated application examples, the book is not only suitable for students, but also for engineers and technicians from various disciplines.
