In 1947, Hans Bernstein moved with his wife Ursula and then four-year-old son Hans-Joachim from Leipzig to Porta Westfalica in the west. The original plan was to travel to southern Germany. For unexplained reasons, however, the train stopped at Porta Westfalica station and could not continue. The family decided to stay in Porta Westfalica. Hans Bernstein founded the company "Bernstein Spezialfabrik für Schaltkontakte" (Bernstein Special Factory for Switch Contacts) from which the internationally active Bernstein Group emerged. Hans-Joachim Bernstein, his eldest son, continued to write the company's success story first as managing director of various Bernstein GmbHs and, after a merger into Bernstein AG, as chairman of the board. Under his leadership, together with his wife Gisela Bernstein, the company developed into today's international technology group.

Grandchildren run the family business in the 3rd generation

In the anniversary year 2017, the third generation of the family-run company is managed by the grandchildren of company founders Nicole and Achim Bernstein. As CEO, Gisela Bernstein continues to complement the company management today. Posthumously, Hans Bernstein received a special appreciation of his great construction work in July 2015 when the city of Porta Westfalica renamed the access road to the main administrative headquarters in "Hans-Bernstein-Strasse".

Bernstein AG still sees itself as very well positioned for the future. "We support customers from different industries in the planning and implementation of safety requirements. In addition to the classic plant and mechanical engineering, we support customers in the areas of elevator construction, automobile production, agricultural technology, automation technology or energy technology, to name just a few examples. The direct dialogue, reliable products and the promise "Everything from a single source" means a lot to our customers. Topics such as communication and interaction between man and machine, smart factory and Industry 4.0 are currently our special focus. In November we will be able to show some interesting new products in this area at the SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg,”reveals Nicole Bernstein.

Bernstein AG, based in Porta Westfalica in East Westphalia, employs more than 560 people internationally in 10 countries. (yup)
