The hemp insulation from Caparol received another award in the product price of the architecture magazine DETAIL.

The jury of experts chose the ecological insulation system as the winner in the Green category. "We are very happy about the DETAIL Product Award 2015. From an ecological point of view, we see hemp as a trend-setting solution as a renewable raw material for insulation," says Caparol Product Manager Andreas Kamp: "The jury award shows that we are on the right track with this innovation."

The excellent facade insulation system from Caparol is based on an insulation panel made of natural hemp fibers, which offer very good protection against summer heat, noise and cold.

In the Green category, construction products, systems and materials were awarded that promote sustainable planning and construction, as well as being environmentally friendly in terms of manufacture, processing, use and recycling. The jury award identifies hemp insulation as a new generation of thermal insulation: renewable, sustainable and natural. The innovative insulation system is based on hemp, one of the oldest crops in the world. The raw material can be harvested every year and binds more CO2 than is consumed during the entire production process. In addition, the insulation board can be recycled or composted after use. Thanks to its good thermal insulation properties, the product saves heating energy and offers a healthy, natural living environment.

Even in the field, hemp removes significantly more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than is released during the course of its cultivation, harvesting, processing and transport.

All submitted building products, building materials and building systems competed against each other for the DETAIL product price, regardless of categories. Experts and the jury of readers rated the products in terms of degree of innovation and design, economy and ecology, functionality and action as well as the product and material life cycle. The DETAIL editorial team pre-selected products and systems in each category. The jury of experts consisted of Prof. Christiane Sauer - Formade, Joachim Stumpp - raumPROBE, Sebastian Schöll - KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten GmbH, a team of architects from Sauerbruch Hutton and Tim Westphal from DETAIL transfer.
