In 2019, red, orange and apricot will play the main roles on the color stage. Shades of blue create unusual contrasts. The three color worlds identified by the Caparol color scouts can be found in the project book Caparol UNIKAT # 3.

Interesting changes are pending - at least as far as the color of the interior is concerned. Because the trend-defining tones of the cool green / blue range of the past few years are taking a back seat. In the future, warm and diverse nuances from the red universe will dominate the picture. It is by no means about aggressive, pushy and dominant red, but about powerful but light-looking tones that combine harmoniously with other colors

Red stands for the courage to use more color

As the center of the 2019 color trend, the team at Caparol Color Design Studio, after extensive research and analysis, determined a very special shade: a red that shows a summer character, is optimistic and at the same time radiates spontaneity. And to show this immediately in the name, the central color of 2019 bears the melodious name "Sorbet-Red". Incidentally, this clay can be found under its other name "Grenadine 130" in the 3D system from Caparol. The "sorbet red" also stands for an approach that relies on emotionality and intuition instead of rational consideration in the color design. "Sorbet red triggers a lot of positive associations and conveys what we call gut feeling," says Sybille Abel from the team of color scouts."It's also about a change of attitude towards a good mood in the sense of a feeling of living, which breaks out of the previous rather head-controlled design approaches." Andrea Girgzdies from Caparol ColorDesignStudio adds: "We want to give courage to dare more color".

Red is feasible: "Sorbet-Red" alias 3D Grenadin 130 is even suitable for large wall areas without being intrusive. On the contrary: the fresh colors spread a positive basic mood, appear powerful and spontaneous.

Three color worlds

The world of red shades offers the chance to put together very lively, yet harmonious color tones: tone-on-tone combinations that gain freshness and summery character through the clever selection of contrast tones from the blue range. This is exactly what color world 1 shows, which encompasses both the deep, noble Bordeaux red as well as cooler shades of red and light, almost powdery-looking shades of rose. The "sorbet red" also fits in here, as do light blue tones with pool associations. Overall, a summery, light-looking color tone emerges, in which each individual tone retains its own role.

2019 will be full of contrasts, at least in color world 1, which provides cool, summery blue tones to the delightful "sorbet red". This creates a lively, clear colourfulness with strong independence.

The color world 2, which is carried by soft pastel tones with anchors in the green, violet, yellow and apricot range, is much more subdued in terms of color brilliance. Although strong contrasts are deliberately avoided here, the combination with deep forest green or grayed violet ensures that despite the warm, soft color mood, tension and conciseness are not lacking. Delicate lilac brakes visual heaviness, all tones stand for a puristic approach of nuances that captivate the eye, but in no way impose themselves on the viewer.

Warm meets cool: In color world 2, the tone-on-tone compositions are dynamically enlivened by additions with slightly earthy and cool nuances.

In color world 3, earthy orange with rose, light yellow and salmon red meet the dark blue of the ocean, cool blue and light sky blue. The deep, complementary shades of blue give the color tone stability and clarity. Sky blue extends the softly tuned interplay of red and orange nuances. Even more: the dark blues let the other colors bloom and bring in elegance and solidity. Nevertheless, the color tone remains youthful, carefree and lively.

Color meets bicycle

With UNIKAT # 2 the Dachshund was something like the equivalent of the color worlds last year, this role will be taken over by the bicycle in 2019. The tried and tested means of transport is more dynamic than ever, has a great future and is full of individuality. There has never been such a wide variety of bicycles as today - muscle-powered, electrically supported, foldable, all-terrain, load-bearing and family-friendly. The bike offers exciting transportation, fun and emotional added value. All these aspects can also be found in the vibrant color worlds 2019.

The bike appears in all media that Caparol has put together especially for the 2019 color trends. On the one hand there is the traditional and very popular trend book, which is also a note-taking, advice and inspiration tool - graphically high-quality and attractively designed. In addition, there is the exclusive color fan with full-page color sheets for specific design and advice. On the Caparol website under the navigation point "Inspiration" you will find further information, background information and suggestions related to the topic of trend. The free “Spectrum_Mobile App” has also been expanded to include the latest trend colors, with which design ideas can be visualized effectively and offer the customer a reliable basis for decision-making.

What comes next?

2020 is still a long way off - at first glance. Because when it comes to determining trends, the motto “After the trend is before the trend” applies. The trend team around Sybille Abel is already working on the next trend study - together with the Institute International Trendscouting, which is located at the university in Hildesheim and again provides valuable input. 2020 is coming - which colors accompany it is not yet clear. "In any case, it won't be black," said Andrea Girgzdies with a smile.
