The cooperation between the painting company Schmitt and Würth shows how the processes can be optimized if the company does not have to worry about consumables. Ulrich Schweizer Osterburken is a small town in the Neckar-Odenwald district with around 6,500 inhabitants, located between Heilbronn and Würzburg. The place became known for the remains of the Limes, which were found there. The Roman Museum attracts thousands of tourists every year who want to see the exhibits or the replica of the watchtower. The painter Schmitt, which is run by master painter and graduate business economist (BA) Dirk Schmitt and his wife Kirsten, also graduate business economist (BA), has been located in this historic place for over 110 years. Painter Schmitt also shows an awareness of history: there is still a book with old calculations or calculations. Those who leaf through the book in fascination and ask questions about the content will also get a taste of the humor from Dirk Schmitt: "Sorry, I don't know - I couldn't ask the writer anymore." The entrepreneur has other old treasures that he maintains and cares for. The master's letters of his ancestors hang on the wall. His great-grandfather Karl Schmitt still has the “Diploma of the master class for wood and marble painting”. Tradition & future After Dirk Schmitt's father died much too early in 1984, his mother continued to run the company together with an old journeyman who, after the son joined the company, happily resigned because he preferred to work on the construction site than in the office. Dirk Schmitt cultivates the tradition and the memory of his predecessors. It is important to him. He also remembers his youth when he often had to work in the workshop on Saturdays. In everyday business life, however, these thoughts and all the documents are at most nostalgic relics. The entrepreneur set up his company so that it is up to date and that he and his 15 industrial employees are well equipped for the future. "We are now a mixed operation, carry out all standard painting work, but also offer plastering and dry construction work and now have a considerable hand machine park." This allows the painting company to act as a full-service provider. And: "From July we will have a full-time construction manager." As a dipl.-Business economist (BA) can of course calculate the best for painter Dirk Schmitt - and he has his organization and costs under control. It goes without saying that he doesn't stop there, take good ideas from outside and then implement them in the company. He is supported in the office by Sigrid Schmitt, who has the same last name, but is not related or related. It should be clear that good craft businesses also become aware of suppliers. With a smile, he is happy to tell how the initial contact with Würth came about: “They came up to me and said we were there. And then they explained to me what they could offer me and my company and what the bottom line was. "With all consumables in mind, he was aware of the cost, when he has to take care of everything himself. But after talking to the Würth employees, he always had one thing in his mind: "The most expensive screw is the one you get yourself." He quickly agreed with the Künzelsau supplier. “The deal was to provide a shelf for a mini amount. Then we defined a standard range tailored to my company and planned the ORSY shelf at Würth, which means order and system.”The shelf system and the initial equipment were not enough. The greatest service is provided by the Würth sales representative responsible for the area: “Patrick Härtweg visits me every two weeks - I discussed this rhythm with him. Within a few minutes we sift through the shelves together and see what is missing. Mr. Hartweg orders everything and a short time later the shelf appears again without gaps. This C-parts management is absolutely great and it is worth it for me, even if you pay for this service, of course.”Sales representative Patrick Härtweg is also happy about the cooperation:“It is really a partnership, characterized by mutual trust. Such personal contact is extremely important.”Costs & Income Dirk Schmitt knows that many of his colleagues are over-sensitive when it comes to purchasing costs. But he continues to think here: “All painters are the same on the wall. Most work equally well and quickly. A painter can only do that if he has everything with him. And the fact that Würth's banal idea ensures that he never forgets anything and is organized better.”Dirk Schmitt estimates thatthat its Würth range includes almost a hundred products, screws, dowels, sealants, knives. But if he needs an article that is rarely used in the painter's field, he speaks to Patrick Härtweg, who then does it for him: “Würth people sometimes get their homework on the way. The nice thing is that afterwards I no longer have to have it in my head - they take care of it reliably.”Personal & online But Dirk Schmitt is not only impressed by the almost perfect organization of the Künzelsau supplier:“What you can learn best from Würth, that is the loyalty of regular customers. It's a helpful thing to watch how they do it. The difference to all other suppliers is the field service. If you have regular customers, you have to show yourself. And they do it!Würth became known for its screws, but of course the range is very broad. They come with really good products around the corner. Screws are just the hanger - this is actually pillpalle.”Dirk Schmitt appreciates everything that makes everyday life easier for the customer from his suppliers. When he talks about it, he immediately raves again: “The app is an absolutely helpful module. It works great.”The fact that the new media and personal contact work together perfectly is impressive for Dirk Schmitt. The icing on the cake, however, is personal support: “We will move to a new building in the next 12 months. Until that happens, not all suppliers know this. Würth already knows this because Patrick Härtweg is interested in our company.“The app is a helpful module.
