Video: Small Linear Axis For Big Tasks

The new lubricant-free miniature linear axis Drylin SLN-27 from Igus should be particularly suitable for infeed movements with low weight. The compact unit can thus be used for sensor adjustments as well as for light handling tasks in device and laboratory technology. It is based on the miniature slide guide Drylin N with a rail width of 27 mm. The materials and the design should make Drylin N an inexpensive and flexible sliding guide system. The guide rail is made of stable, anodized aluminum. With its compact dimensions, 22 mm height and 28 mm width, according to the manufacturer, the linear unit SLN-27 is particularly suitable for confined spaces. Due to the plastic plain bearings in the spindle bearings and guide slides, the system is completely free of lubricants and maintenance.

Fast strokes thanks to steep thread
“At the upcoming Motek, we will be presenting the miniature linear axis in combination with our new Dryspin high helix threads. Drylin SLN-27 is not only small, light and flat, but also fast with strokes of 25 mm with one revolution,”says Stefan Niermann, head of the Drylin linear and drive technology division at Igus GmbH. This means that the miniature linear axis can also be used for fast handling and positioning tasks. The spindles can also be ball-bearing mounted for dynamic movement profiles and a low-play run. The effective tilting play of the guide carriage can be set using four adjusting screws. The feed takes place via a spindle with a diameter of 6.35 mm. Five pitch variants - 0.8 mm, 2.54 mm, 5.08 mm, 12.7 mm and 25.4 mm - of the steep thread are available.
With a basis weight of 60 g, the linear axis should be one of the lightweights of the driven linear guide systems. With a maximum stroke length of 250 mm, the miniature actuator weighs 160 g. If the axis is supplied in combination with a Nema 11 stepper motor, the external dimensions are 28 mm × 28 mm. The portfolio also includes DC motors with or without a radial kit. Alternatively, other motors can be connected via a motor flange. The entire modular system of the Drylin-SLN-27 miniature axles comprises three different slide variants - from the inexpensive entry-level model to slides with manual play and height adjustment to the precisely adjustable carriage with preload function.
