CES Selector from Granta Design is a PC-based software for material selection and graphical analysis of materials, which enables users to understand the advantages and limitations of their material options, to select the most suitable material straight away and to quickly find replacement materials. Material properties provide answers to many critical questions in product development. CES Selector 2017 supports users in finding answers to their questions and makes it easier to justify a certain selection of materials and to communicate their recommendations to all involved.
Make decisions easier
For example, users can quickly create characteristic diagrams that help them understand which materials are best suited for a particular application. An advanced comment function, such as The possibility to add trend indicators and curves, for example, increases the information content of these diagrams in reports and presentations and helps to explain conflicting goals and show solutions to problems. The new data sheet format enables values with characteristic data to be correlated with a fresh and attractive appearance and links to further information to be called up.

Risk indicators for banned substances
The new risk indicators for banned substances access an important, ongoing project at Granta, in which unrivaled information resources about banned substances, the corresponding legislation and their influence on the material decision are collected and maintained. The indicators enable users to identify risky materials when selecting and comparing the materials, e.g. B. if the REACH regulation is not complied with.
Consider processing costs early in the process
The Part Cost Estimator tool has been expanded in the latest software version, based on customer feedback, to include the possibility of taking the influence of processing costs into account in the early phase of product design. This enables users to estimate the costs of the machined components very early and to examine the economic turning point at which a decision must be made between machining and near-net shape processes.
The material selection has been expanded to include new information that can be used to take machining speed and stress corrosion cracks into account. This makes it possible to filter material data with regard to these characteristic values and to examine the results in comparison tables.
Updates to metals, plastics and composites
Extensive updates have been made to the Material Universe core database, which offers a wide coverage of metals, plastics and composite materials. Among other things, the latest grades and the latest price information have been added. CES Selector can now be used together with the Senvol Database, with the information it contains on materials and machines for additive manufacturing. The following data modules have also been updated: Prospector, Campus and M-Base plastics; StahlDat SX and SteelSpec steels; MMPDS and ASME metals as well as the database for coatings. (mz)
