Video: Servo Terminals With Integrated STO Safety Function

The servo terminals for the Beckhoff Ethercat terminal system integrate a complete servo amplifier for highly dynamic positioning tasks in the standard terminal housing. The new EL72x1-9014 version now enables the user to implement the STO (Safe Torque Off) safety function, which corresponds to a Cat 3 / PL d safety level in accordance with DIN EN ISO 13849-1: 2015. The safety integration in the terminal form factor in conjunction with the One Cable Technology (OCT) should result in extremely space-saving and cost-effective solutions for safety-related drive functions. Compared to a 2-channel shutdown with appropriate contactors in the motor cable, wiring, space and costs are to be significantly reduced, since a single line from the safety output (e.g. EL2904) to the STO input of the servo terminal is sufficient.
According to the manufacturer, the one-cable solution OCT also minimizes the cable costs and the space required for the motor connection. The EL7201-9014 in a 12 mm terminal housing provides an output current of up to 2.8 ARMS, the 24 mm wide version EL7211-9014 a maximum of 4.5 ARMS. Both should be suitable for controlling the servomotors of the AM8100 series. The integrated electronic nameplate of the AM8100 motors can be read in automatically by the servo terminals, which should make commissioning much easier. (sh)
