This Ethernet-based interface recognizes the electronic nameplate of the high-precision and robust new absolute value measuring system. Commissioning in minutes has been possible since the market launch in conjunction with Hiperface and the Rexroth drives Indra-Drive. Supplemented with the SSI interface, IMS-A now fully supports universal use in machine tools, for additive manufacturing processes and other applications with high precision requirements.

Accelerated commissioning

The combination of guiding and measuring in one assembly significantly reduces the mechanical assembly work in the machine. The Drive-Cliq interface now also shortens the electrical commissioning when used with drives and controls from Siemens. With the plug & play encoder system, the commissioning engineer only specifies the respective zero point of the machine and the measuring section. In addition to querying diagnostic information, all other information from the electronic nameplate of the IMS-A is automatically transferred via Drive-Cliq.

The absolute position is transmitted with a resolution of 25 nm, the repetition accuracy is better than +/- 0.25 µm. The integrated measuring standard is available with an accuracy of up to +/- 3 µm / m and is in the range of glass scales. Users can use several guide carriages with IMS-A independently of one another on a profile rail up to 4500 mm long and without any restrictions in terms of accuracy. Even after a power failure, the measuring system reports the exact position of the axis when it is switched on again without reference travel.

Non-contact and wear-free

The absolute position measuring system integrated in the linear guides works contactless and therefore wear-free. Even in work rooms with cooling lubricants, dust, chips and other contaminants, the IMS-A does not require any complex and energy-intensive sealing air devices. This also eliminates the regular exchange or cleaning work that is necessary with glass scales in these environments. The machines are not available during this time.

The measuring system is insensitive to magnetic fields and vibrations and shocks, and the sensors and evaluation electronics are protected in a housing on the front of the carriage. This saves designers space for external measuring systems. Rail guides equipped with the IMS-A fit into existing machine concepts in almost all cases without design changes. (jv)
