Video: Program Expansion Should Appeal To New Target Groups

With the SSW900 soft starter and the MVW3000 system converter, we can address new target groups in Europe,”explains Johannes Schwenger, Head of Product Management Drive Systems Low Voltage and Medium Voltage Europe at WEG. The soft starter extends the portfolio in an area in which WEG has not yet been very active in Europe. The system converter is intended to open the door to medium-voltage applications, which are very popular in Europe. "As the global drive technology solution provider in Europe, we also come a step closer to being a full-service provider in the field of automation," comments Johannes Schwenger.
Soft starter integrates PLC
The compact SSW900 soft starter, which will replace the previous SSW07 series, was developed for industrial and commercial use and covers output currents from 10 A to 412 A in the wide-voltage range from 220 V 3 AC to 575 V 3 AC. As high-performance, high-end devices with an integrated PLC, they offer fully programmable methods for controlling asynchronous motors and completely flexible torque control.

Bypass contactor extends service life
Due to the integrated bypass contactor, the soft starters ensure an extended service life, optimized use of space and reduced heat emission in the control cabinet. The new user interface simplifies operation and allows the user to make program adjustments quickly and easily. The SSW900 is suitable for a wide range of applications, including fans / ventilation fans, axial and centrifugal and metering pumps, mixers and mixers, conveyor belts, extruders, dryers and industrial ovens, rotary tables, but also ball and hammer mills.
Converter as a complete system
At the SPS IPC Drives, WEG will also be presenting its new MVW3000 converter series for voltages from 2.3 kV to 8 kV and outputs from 280 kW to 2400 kW - in the first development step. Higher voltages and powers are already possible on request.
This device series is designed in multilevel technology with cascaded H-bridges (CHB). The multilevel topology is based on a series connection of 3 to 10 (depending on the output voltage) low-voltage power units 690V with IGBT output inverter bridge in an H circuit. This makes it possible to achieve output voltage levels in the medium-voltage range in a cost-efficient manner using proven standard low-voltage components (diodes, IGBTs and plastic film capacitors). The special feature: The MVW3000 is launched on the market as a complete control cabinet-integrated system with medium-voltage disconnector, fuses, multi-level feed transformer and frequency converter.
In addition, WEG is expanding the DWB (MCCB) molded case circuit breaker series by three additional sizes for output currents from 800 A to 1600 A, so that this product family now covers a current range from 16 A to 1600 A, spread over 6 sizes.
Circuit breakers provide flexible protection
In the course of the expansion, the entire series also received a new housing design with extensive uniform accessories and permanent laser lettering for industrial use. The molded case circuit breakers of the DWB series offer flexible, cost-efficient, reliable protection for power distribution, motors and generators for applications in industry and commerce, especially in control cabinet construction.
With the new K1W motor series, Antriebstechnik KATT Hessen meets the demand from various areas of mechanical engineering for high-performance motors with a small installation volume.
Powerful performance in a small installation space
With the series, a motor was developed that, thanks to its options, can be used in almost any application. It is used when building volume performance optimization is required, the heat loss that occurs must not be emitted directly to the surroundings, the ambient conditions already have a greatly increased temperature level or noise reduction is required. The water-cooled motors in sizes from IEC 200 to IEC 355 cover outputs from 45 kW to 710 kW. They are suitable for both mains and converter operation. (ud)
