Video: Positioning Control For Motion Control Applications

As the first product in the series, Maxon is launching a high-performance Epos4 module with plug-in pin headers in two performance variants. The modules can also be combined with a connector board to form a ready-to-connect compact solution. The positioning controls are suitable for the efficient and dynamic control of brushed DC motors and brushless BLDC motors (so-called EC motors) with Hall sensors and encoders up to 750 W continuous power and 1500 W peak power with very small dimensions.
More performance and additional functionalities
The Swiss drive specialist Maxon Motor has equipped its CANopen positioning control series with even more power, greater control performance and additional functionalities. The modular concept also provides a wide range of expansion options for Ethernet-based interfaces: such as Ethercat or absolute encoders. All of these innovations are based on the principle of success of the Easy to Use Positioning System.

The combination of an extensive selection of operating modes, state-of-the-art control properties such as Field Oriented Control (FOC) and a wide range of analog and digital I / O and command options make it possible to use it in a wide variety of application areas - from medical technology to robotics. As always, Maxon relies on integrated protective devices such as Safe Torque Off (STO) functionality.
Intuitive parameterization
Commissioning and parameterization work via the further developed, intuitive graphic user interface Epos Studio and easy-to-use, menu-guided assistance programs (wizards). A sophisticated automatic procedure for controller tuning has also been part of this for years. The customer can devote himself entirely to his actual task - the development of his device. He only has to take care of controlling the motors in a second line. For this, he can draw on Maxon motor's drive know-how, which is embedded in Epic. Together with the also freely available libraries and programming examples, this makes integration into a wide variety of systems simple.
All these properties are combined with a large input voltage range up to 50 VDC, the highest power density and an efficiency of up to 98%.
