Video: Asia Installs 70% More Industrial Robots

China, as the world's largest sales market for industrial robots, alone accounts for 43% of total sales in the Asia region - including Australia and New Zealand. South Korea follows with a 24% share of sales and Japan with 22%. In total, these three nations together accounted for 89% of the market in Asia and Australia in 2015.
China remains the biggest growth driver
The Middle Kingdom will continue to be the largest growth driver in the future and will continue to expand its leading role. China will install around 40% of the world's supply by 2019. The growth trend for robot installations is forecast to continue in all of the larger robot sales markets in Asia: South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and other Southeast Asian countries.
The electrical and electronics industry was the largest growth industry in Asia. Sales jumped by 41% in 2015 to 56,200 units compared to the previous year. For comparison: The automotive industry bought 54,500 robot units - an increase of 4%. This is the first time that the electrical and electronics industry in Asia has installed more industrial robots than the automotive industry and has doubled sales within just five years.
Manufacturing - by far the largest sector by number of industrial robots used - saw annual growth of 25% to 149,500 units in 2015.

"China will continue to grow as a dynamic future market for the robot industry," said Joe Gemma, president of the International Federation of Robotics.
With a focus on robot density, South Korea is at the top worldwide. There are 531 industrial robots for every 10,000 employees, followed by Singapore (398 units) and Japan (305 units). These three Asian economies rank among the top ten most advanced industrial countries worldwide. The average global robot density is 69 units per 10,000 employees.
"China will continue to grow as a dynamic future market for the robot industry," said Joe Gemma, president of the International Federation of Robotics. “The Chinese government's 2025 technology strategy will make an important contribution to automation. China's goal is to conquer global technology leadership in automation.”(Jv)
