Video: Balluff Opens Extension To The Plant In Chengdu, China

“In the long run, China is the world's largest market for production automation with a need that we believe will continue to grow for a long time to come. In such a market, we must and want to be present with our philosophy of literal customer proximity. By the way, not only Chengdu benefits from this. We know from experience that a positive development in a large market somewhere in the world also ensures growth at the other locations in our production network,”said Michael Unger, spokesman for the Balluff management, when the new building opened in early February 2017.
Production of large series
In Chengdu Balluff wants to set up partially automated production lines and significantly expand the development expertise at the location. According to Balluff, Chengdu is one of the two plants within the global production and logistics network with a total of nine plants, which focuses on the production of large series within the network.

Balluff has been active in China since 1994; at that time a service branch was founded in Shanghai. Two years later, the company placed its first assembly orders in Chengdu - at that time still with an external partner. The subsidiary was founded in Chengdu in 2004. The plant opened three years later. Chengdu has also been a development location since 2014. Balluff currently has 160 employees in Chengdu, and the company expects the number of employees to continue to grow in the coming years.

Balluff in Chengdu currently produces mechanical and inductive sensors as well as linear position measuring systems for industrial automation. In the new building, the product range is expanded by a partially automated production and installation of a sensor platform concept. This means that the Chinese location has one of the most modern production facilities in the entire manufacturing network, says Balluff. The development in Chengdu is also to be expanded significantly in the next few years in order to be able to develop both customer-specific adaptations and platform concepts. (jv)
