For use in a Moroccan phosphate pit, Nord Drivesystems has designed an industrial gear unit with a nominal torque of 240,000 Nm and numerous application-specific adaptations. According to the company, it is the largest system to date with a one-piece gear housing.

Maximum availability and high tolerance

The drive system consists of an SK 15407 bevel gear industrial gear unit, a medium-voltage motor with a rated output of 450 kW, a motor swing arm, a fluid coupling and an electro-hydraulic brake. Nord has configured a total of 26 systems according to the customer's strict specifications and taking into account the harsh environmental and operating conditions. They move a conveyor belt over two kilometers long that transports phosphate ore weighing several hundred tons. The heavy-duty transmission configuration is designed to meet all of the customer's demanding requirements, especially maximum availability and a high tolerance to load peaks and impacts. The block housing is designed to counteract leakage and enable a compact design with very high radial and axial loads.All six gearbox sides are available for installation; flange mounting is also possible.

Focus on occupational safety and reliability

The project planning and implementation was carried out by the regional Nord representative in Casablanca with the support of drive engineers from Nord in France and from the parent company in Bargteheide. The moving parts are covered with protective hoods. The application side, including the gearbox, can be completely separated from the motor side by means of the fluid coupling. The solution is intended to ensure both high work safety and reliability. (sh)
