At the Hanover Fair 2017, the Timken Company wants to focus its complementary range of tapered roller bearings. This is particularly true in view of the opening of another production plant for the European market in Romania shortly after the trade fair in May. "Our market-leading position in tapered roller bearings for almost every industry brings with it further demand," explains Hasso Haibach, General Manager Timken Germany. "We react to this and create additional capacities in order to be able to serve our customers reliably and across the board as usual."

In the Timken Romania SA plant in Ploiesti, which has been in operation since 1997, large-bore rolling bearings, spare parts and accessories as well as rolled rings have been produced. The now added production at the same location is intended to complement the existing European tapered roller bearing production facilities of Timken Europe in Colmar, France, Timken Italia Srl in Brescia, Timken Polska in Sosnowiec, and Timken Rail Services UK, which produces specifically for rail vehicle construction, in Northampton. "This means that we are ideally positioned geographically and are even more flexible when it comes to order peaks," explains Haibach. "120 new colleagues will work in the new plant with an area of 15,000 m²."

Tapered roller bearings patented in 1898

The tapered roller bearing patented by company founder Henry Timken in 1898 forms the basis of the product and company history. The conical rolling elements that have characterized the bearing type since then offer the company the most powerful and efficient way to handle a combination of radial and axial loads.

Today, single, double and four-row as well as axial versions are available in sizes from 8 mm bearing bore to over 3 m outside diameter. In addition, there are special solutions such as stacked tapered roller bearing units for particularly high axial loads with limited space. There are options for adapting bearing geometries and surface processing for individual applications.

At the Hanover Fair, Timken is showing industry-related innovations and additions - for example in single-row tapered roller bearings and bearing kits in metric sizes. According to Timken, further optimized materials, surfaces, geometries and designs stand for extremely smooth running, higher load ratings, longer service life as well as all-round improved key performance indicators.

Other storage types complete the program

In addition to the tapered roller bearing program, Timken is also presenting other bearing types in Hanover: For spherical roller bearings, the expanded program is intended to cover a complete range with steel and brass cages up to sizes of 1250 mm bore diameter. Optimized surface areas, load distributions, friction values and cage designs should enable demanding applications and bring significant efficiency gains.

Timken also wants to highlight its special expertise in rolling bearing housing units. Here too, the company offers a wide range across the industry. According to the company, housing units with spherical roller, tapered roller, split cylindrical roller or ball bearings are easy to service and prove themselves under difficult operating conditions. The Timken-Revolvo Quick-Fit series with roller bearings, for example, is intended to facilitate the installation of split housing units in applications with limited access. The design with 45 ° division reduces assembly times by up to 90%, as there is no need to lift the shaft or remove the drive.

Elastomer couplings are a new focus in the overall portfolio

In addition, Timken is showing a comprehensive range of elastomer couplings that are as durable as they are low-maintenance as a new focus in the overall range. The Timken Quick Flex system was developed for exceptional performance parameters under demanding environmental conditions. The couplings should be particularly easy to install and require no lubrication. The polyurethane insert can be replaced without dismantling other parts. (sh)
