Video: World's First 3D Printing Factory Inaugurated
The Technology Day of FIT AG took place for the 7th time. As part of this in-house exhibition, experts and those interested in technical matters were able to see live industrial 3D printing, or more correctly, additive manufacturing. A high-quality series of lectures rounded off the practical impressions. FIT AG is one of the most successful service companies in additive manufacturing and has its headquarters in Lupburg, Upper Palatinate. Its customers come from the automotive and motor sports sectors, among others, but also from medical technology and aerospace.

In 2015, the company announced that it would invest 20 million euros in the first factory that is purely focused on additive manufacturing. In the meantime, FIT has used the fact that the production on two floors has been raised on an industrial scale. An entire floor is dedicated to the additive manufacturing of metal parts, so that the company can today claim the largest capacities for additively manufactured metal parts worldwide. Another floor is available for the additive manufacturing of plastic parts, mostly prototypes for vehicle construction. FIT uses a large number of processes and machines in its machinery, particularly in the area of quality assurance and additional additive processes for the production of small and special series.

“Fortunately for us, the past three years have been characterized by strong growth. We were able to successfully expand our existing customer relationships and gain important new customers. Through successful acquisitions and investments, we further sharpened our profile as a leading provider in the areas of additive manufacturing and prototype construction,”explains Carl Fruth, founder and CEO of FIT AG.
The FIT Factory is unique in an international environment in terms of manufacturing capacity and automation technology and should serve as a template for other AM factories of the FIT Group. The new, larger administration building with workplaces for over 200 employees was also inaugurated on the Technology Day.

The striking 7-storey building for the administration is a poster child for the innovative technology and development work of FIT AG in architecture and interior design. The supposedly closed cube with gold-colored facade accents consists of openwork steel bars, the anodized metal surface of which presents itself in changing daylight and at different temperatures in a changing play of colors with green, gold and other colors runs up to the skylight in the roof. In the room, alternately set meeting orifices jump, which allow interesting views and visual relationships between offices, reception area and levels on all floors.

Guided tours were organized throughout the day on the various topics at FIT AG. Interested parties were able to get a direct impression of the modern office tower, the FIT Factory specializing in additive manufacturing and the old location in Eichenbühl about additive-supported conventional manufacturing, finishing and quality assurance.
Visitor numbers exceeded expectations
"We already had over 1200 registrations in advance," says Carl Fruth. "Interest in industrial additive manufacturing is huge. This shows us that we are on the right track with our approach of scalable additive manufacturing at the highest level.”The interest was across industries. The quality of the trade visitors was remarkable, as they were usually already very familiar with the subject and had very specific questions. (br)
