Video: Ultra-light Thermoplastic Foam Injection Molding

High-strength and at the same time lightweight components made in one shot, this is made possible by the new process combination of injection molding processing of metal replacement plastics with light foams. The sandwich-like lightweight components are particularly suitable for applications with load-bearing or load-bearing functions. Lightweight components manufactured in this way have a higher weight-specific bending stiffness compared to a component made of compact material.
The new research project "Cell-2K" aims among other things to manufacture lightweight components with special properties. Increased heat resistance, paintability, sterilizability and a low dielectric constant are to be achieved with various engineering plastics. The KUZ is also testing possibilities and limits in the simulation of thermoplastic foam injection molding. (qui)
