Zwickroell's DWT large fall power units (High Energy Drop Weight Tester) can be used to test and evaluate fracture surfaces on ferritic steels , as are often used for oil and gas pipelines. The test method is described as a drop weight test in the API-RP 5L3, DIN EN 10274 and ASTM-E 436 standards, among others
When falling , the weight accelerates a standardized test specimen in the direction of the sample , which is broken through or broken. Statements about the material properties can be made from the type of fracture or the fracture structure of the sample. Temperature control of the sample with a separate cooling unit is also possible.
Complete force-displacement diagrams can also be recorded with instrumented drop mechanisms. Both characteristic force points and the recorded impact energy can be calculated from this.
The Gövert test laboratory tested notched steel samples from pipe sections on a DWT 120 kJ drop mechanism . For this purpose, the pipe cut was sawn into shape, made into a gull-wing shape and provided with a notch on a Zwickroell 800 kN hydraulic notching press. Gövert is one of the few service providers who produce test samples in gull-wing form and can now also test them. With the Gull-Wing shape, the original curvature at the notch and test point is retained unchanged , while the conventional sample is tested as a machined flat sample with a notch.
The impact tests are carried out with an instrumented fin at different temperatures. With a drop weight of approx. 3 t and a drop height of approx. 4 m, the drop mechanism applies up to 120 kJ of energy, making it one of the most powerful drop mechanisms worldwide. Tests according to test standards such as ASTM-E 436, API-RP 5L3 or DIN EN 10274 are possible on large samples.
The Zwickroell large-scale casualty impressed in particular with reliable test results, which can be demonstrated with a test certificate based on DAkkS, and the certified calibration ex works and on-site at the customer. The high security requirements are also reliably met and the project planning is extensively supported - important reasons for Gövert to choose the DWT 120 kJ from Zwickroell.
