The industry has the levers in hand: "At the Hannover Messe 2020, around 5500 exhibitors show how transformation can succeed and how change can become growth and progress," promises Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman of the Board of Management of Deutsche Messe AG.

Data: source of efficiency and a prerequisite for machine learning
The raw material and the basis of growth are data. In the course of digitization, the amount of data in industrial production is rising to gigantic heights. At the same time, however, the ability to interpret this data meaningfully and use it profitably is growing. Köckler: "The rapidly growing number of cloud providers at the Hannover Messe shows that we are at the beginning of completely new developments." Just as the first apps began their triumphal march on every smartphone in 2007, the evaluation of data will be carried out via Move cloud or edge computing to any factory.

Solutions are networked today: machines and systems autonomously communicate and exchange information, while software documents, monitors and simulates. This not only increases efficiency. Data is also a prerequisite for machine learning and artificial intelligence.
The Digital Ecosystems exhibition area forms the basis for the networking of machines, production systems and intralogistics processes. Companies such as Amazon Web Services, Cisco, Google, Huawei, IBM, Intel, Kaspersky, Microsoft, SAP, Siemens PLM or Software AG show software solutions for flexible manufacturing or B2B platforms for industry.

5G for industry
A real functional 5G network will be set up in halls 3 and 21. Both network equipment suppliers and users will show what will be possible with the new mobile radio standard. Many showcases will be networked there via the 5G standard.
Production and logistics grow together
Digitization is already a key driver of intralogistics. This begins in the automated warehouse, where the processes are controlled by software programs, robots and driverless transport systems independently navigate around the halls around the clock and deliver goods to the destination in the right quantity at the right time. Production and logistics processes are also becoming more and more closely interlinked in order to be able to produce even more efficiently and flexibly and thus more cost-effectively. Therefore, the logistics and intralogistics solutions play a central role at this year's Hanover Fair.
Innovation protects the climate: on the way to C0 2 -neutral production
Industrial production is energy intensive. For this reason, resource efficiency, energy efficiency and CO 2 -neutral production have been on the industry's agenda for many years.
With the drive of the current social debate on climate protection, sustainable technologies and climate-neutral business models are getting a new tailwind. Whether efficient and smart solutions in the field of energy, circular economy or lightweight construction - resource conservation, energy efficiency and process optimization are results that not only counteract climate change, but also bring economic success. The fair shows that climate protection and industrial policy belong together.
Changing energy: hydrogen as an industrial engine
Hydrogen and fuel cells are moving into focus and bridging the gap between infrastructure applications and industrial use.
In Hanover, the international platform "Hydrogen + Fuel Cells Europe" has been providing technological impulses for the expansion of the hydrogen economy for many years. With more than 200 exhibitors from all over the world, the platform achieved record participation this year. This enables a holistic view of energy generation and use, mobility and the interplay of the buildings, industry, transport and energy sectors.
In addition, the infrastructure for electromobility and the technologies required for this will become a major topic in Hanover. From transport systems and charging technology to electricity infrastructure and stationary energy storage, the exhibition shows solutions for networked mobility.
The young savages: tech startups are shaking up the industry
One effect of digitalization is this: the little ones can now do what only the big ones could do in the past. Disruptive ideas and technologies come out of the start-up scene with a punch.
Whether AI-based software, virtual reality, sensor technologies, smart materials or intelligent energy solutions - more than 250 tech startups from all over the world will set out at the Hanover Fair to shape the change in industry.
Not only do the young savages show how they imagine this. It is also impressive how Indonesia is preparing for the future. The partner country 2020 is taking decisive steps towards Industry 4.0.
