Mobile Industrial Robots (MIR) and Universal Robots (UR), manufacturers of collaborative robots (so-called cobots), are planning to build a cobot center in Odense, Denmark, with the financial support of their joint US parent company Teradyne for EUR 36 million. The third largest city in Denmark is considered a robotics center - the Danish robotics cluster is also located here.
In a nutshell
Cobots - collaborative robots - are a rapidly growing segment of automation in which Universal Robots, among others, specializes. You can work directly with people without a protective fence and take on monotonous tasks.
Denmark as a pioneer in the robotics market

MIR CEO Thomas Visti said: “Denmark has a significant lead in the global cobots market. So it makes a lot of sense to invest in the largest cobot center in the world here in Odense.” MIR hired 100 new employees last year, UR hired 280 new employees in the past two years. Today the two companies employ 160 and 450 people in Denmark. UR employs almost 700 people worldwide, while MIR's workforce comprises around 220 people worldwide.
The president of UR, Jürgen von Hollen, sees a lot of potential in the market for cobots: "According to ABI Research, this market will grow to a total value of almost $ 12 billion by 2030." The annual survey of the industry association Odense Robotics from 2019 shows that currently 8,500 people work for Danish robotics companies, including 3,900 in and around Odense, the third largest city in Denmark. If the industry follows growth forecasts, the Danish robot industry will already employ 25,000 people in 2025, according to the Danish analysis company Damvad.
