The history of 3D printing is older than you might think. The first 3D printing technique is not fused deposition modeling (FDM), but stereolithography (SLA)

The first 3D printing tests were carried out by the Japanese scientist Hideo Kodama . In 1980 he was the first to describe the approaches to stereolithography. Unfortunately, he did not submit the patent application on time. Engineer Charles Hull filed his first stereolithography patent in 1984, which was granted in 1986. Our picture collection shows which three essential 3D printing processes were born in the 1980s.
