The Moxxa.caffè in Cologne should become a visible roaster, in which fair and organically grown coffee is professionally prepared. The working environment should also be created in such a way that the specialization in coffee can be lived out. Designer Moritz Zielke from “Studio Wiederverwandt” and architect Wibke Schaeffer set about the creative work. Jessica Klapp During the realization, "Wiederverwandt" paid special attention to the counter as a central element in the room as well as to the sales presentation of the products, the high quality of which should be emphasized by the choice of materials. The walls were also important in the redesign. "The walls were made of unstable plasterboard and had been covered with a ruined woodchip wallpaper for decades - a challengebecause demolition was not desired,”Wibke Schaeffer describes the condition of the walls. The wall design played a central role in this. "On the one hand, hardly any design is so withdrawn and, on the other hand, it is perceived as color unconsciously," says Moritz Zielke. "The quality of the products that Moxxa.caffè offers should also be reflected in the wall design." The coffee itself is selected, examined in the growing area and roasted with enormous specialist knowledge. Ecological wall paint The colors of the walls matched the designer, architect and building owner to these details in terms of color psychology. "In order to achieve a feeling of quality in terms of feel, we decided on Histolith spatial quartz from Caparol. A permanent color that conveys a lot of depth thanks to the quartz,”says Wibke Schaeffer. So the walls were filled, touched up, sanded, painted with the sol silicate paint. "We often use spatial quartz for authentic renovation in the area of monuments and old buildings," says Caparol consultant Bernd Hauröder. "These products can also be used to serve the building owner, whose philosophy demands an ecologically demanding standard. “Hand in hand, master painter Frank Maus and his team stuck to the design. Painters, floor layers, electricians, locksmiths, carpenters, tilers and drywall builders worked hand in hand - during the day, but also at night, because it was important to keep to the ambitious schedule and to arrange as well as possible on a relatively small work surface. The ecological, sustainable aspect proved to be essential in the redesign of the Moxxa.caffè,who should also distinguish the café from other local roasters. "Only genuine and authentic materials that are durable and patina-capable were used," emphasizes Dirk Barthelmeß. "The metal is rusty, the wood is oiled, the lights and the counter are made of brass." Noble ambience The materials should also be able to tell their own exciting stories in the course of their use. In addition, both the materials and the roasting machine in the center of the restaurant contribute to a pre-industrial manufacturing atmosphere. However, this supposedly cool character is transformed into a pleasant and noble-looking ambience by the color scheme of the rooms. The scent of freshly ground coffee beans does the rest."Only genuine and authentic materials that are durable and patina-capable were used," emphasizes Dirk Barthelmeß.
