For noble and color-deep surfaces, special attention must be paid to the preparation and processing of the surface for highly pigmented interior colors.
Luxurious interior colors convince with an even, velvety-matt high-quality surface, high color depth and an elegant powdery look. To achieve this effect, they have up to 100 percent more pigmentation than conventional dispersions. With these noble interior colors, care must be taken to ensure that they are processed correctly in order to meet the high demands in terms of color depth and color brilliance.
As far as the surface is concerned, master painter and painter Claus Fehr, who is responsible for the Wiesbaden area as a sales representative, advises: “The colors are particularly effective on an even surface. Here a Q4 filling or a smooth fleece is necessary. And also very important, experience has shown, is the right primer.”
The matching primer for the interior color is available from Caparol in nine shades, each of which is coordinated with the subsequent color coat. A primer table can be found in the color fan and in the technical information. Another important note for these products: “The primer and color are set ready for processing in the container. The craftsman should never thin the paint,”advises the expert.
The last step to a high-quality surface
For a surface that is as smooth and structurally poor as possible, the material should be applied with a short-pile ink roller, e.g. a fine roller. “This is the best way to achieve the velvety matt or, depending on the material, silky surface. Repeated rolling is not necessary due to the good flow. This must be observed to ensure an optimal painting result. Two top coats - each applied thinly - should be enough,”says Fehr. The drying times must also be strictly observed. With approximately ten square meters of wall area per liter, the highly pigmented plastic dispersion proves to be very productive.

Caparol has been producing innovative colors with high standards of quality and aesthetics since 1895. With Icons a product was developed especially for particularly noble and color-deep surfaces, which is manufactured in Germany in manufactory quality. The 120 shades interpret color worlds of the past six decades in the context of design, art, architecture, fashion, music and literature. To match the interior colors, the manufacturer offers tinted primers and the Caparol fine roller for the application.
