In principle, this is no longer tragic if the long-lasting sealing compounds did not develop mold over time. This usually begins in the corners, then spreads out selectively over the acrylic joint and is initially only an optical defect, which, however, can be quite a problem for sensitive people in the case of large-scale infestation.

Now a textile tape has been developed at the Hohenstein Institute together with an industrial partner to eliminate the cause of mold growth. The self-adhesive tape is glued to the window sash where the condensation is usually. The superabsorbent in the belt absorbs five to six times its own weight in water, keeping the area dry. Superabsorbers are special plastics in powder or granulate form, which ensure dry conditions in diapers, for example. The approximately one millimeter thick window tape absorbs the condensed water and releases it again when the surroundings are dry. The result of the technology transfer should come onto the market in the course of the coming year. It is produced by the Wuppertal-based company Gebrüder Jaeger. As helpful as the tape is, it does not release you from reducing the room humidity by regular ventilation.
