What are the trends in decorative wall designs? Which creative products are currently in particular demand for interior and facade design? Admittedly, you can see more and more smooth, opaque monochrome wall surfaces that leave little room for creativity or even artistic work. But if the creative surfaces were actually no longer in demand, one must be surprised that the paint manufacturers are constantly bringing new creative products onto the market. The Malerblatt wanted to know from the manufacturers which trends can currently be observed in terms of creative techniques and which of their products is currently the most in demand. Jaeger-Lacke confirms the assumption of the Malerblatt that creative surface techniques are still popular and that only the style has changed. The company from the Swabian town of Möglingen has been offering an extensive range of creative surface products with “VillaVenezia” for many years. Years ago, mainly Mediterranean spatula and glaze techniques - very much in terracotta, ocher yellow and Pompeian red - were at the top of the favor of consumers, contemporary optics such as concrete, wood or the vintage look are increasingly replacing them. With this change, a whole new group of customers could be inspired by the creative wall design. Cheers to the rust Rusty surfaces are essential for the trendy industrial style. Jaeger reacted to this and developed the product “real rust”. This means that real rust can be generated quickly, easily and, above all, in a targeted manner: the base color, which is equipped with iron particles, is oxidized using a separately supplied activator. You can control the strength of the effect by applying the activator. Finally, the surface should be protected from staining with a protective coating. Copper surfaces also go perfectly with industrial design, especially if they have a patina with the typical verdigris. The new "copper patina" from Jaeger works very similar to real rust: the copper-red base color is reacted with an activator, and the verdigris becomes visible after only about 30 minutes. Since the presentation of the novelty "real rust",Jaeger receives an extremely large number of inquiries. These are still a hit and underline the current upcycling trend. Depending on skill and taste, the rust look can be developed from subtly even to strongly structured and with strong drains. The same product variants are always used for the various design techniques, based on Creativ Tenero 84, a velvet-effect filler with fine metallic-effect pigments. The very authentic rust look is created in the correct color selection and in combination with Creativ Viviato 72. BronzoFuso combines the structure and naturalness of a lime product with the patina of a metallic oxidized surface and enchants with corroded metallic reflections. This effect was originally developed for the lobby of the Hilton Hotel in Milan - and promptly won the SBID Award for innovative product design. "Marmorino Naturale Fine", a granular lime smoothing technique, is applied unevenly (basement) with the stainless steel trowel and smoothed. Metallic gloss Metallic gloss seems to be a big design topic at all. Hardly any manufacturer currently offers no metallic effect paint. Sikkens, for example, sees “Alpha Metallic” at the top of the popularity scale. With its noble silky sheen and its diverse light reflections and impressions, the metallic coating is ideally suited wherever a noble appearance and high-quality appearance are important. The selected alpha metallic colors are tailored to the requirements of high-quality, modern architecture and give smooth and structured surfaces an impressive appearance. The effectively designed surfaces are not only eye-catchers,but also impress with their high durability. The effect color is therefore perfectly suitable for upscale private rooms as well as for representative rooms such as hotel foyers, business premises, offices or cafes, as the redesign of the café-bar-brasserie in the Kunsthalle Munich proves. A characteristic feature of the restaurant is a wave-shaped slat wall. As part of the redesign, the walls were given a copper-colored design coating with Alpha Metallic from Sikkens, which brings out the 3-D structure of the surface very effectively (www.sikkens.de). Zero-Lack also registers strong demand for a metallic product. The paint manufacturer from Bad Oeynhausen presented "Magic Touch", a leveling compound with a velvety-metallic effect, at trade fairs or painters' breakfasts - and has been very well received,which, according to marketing director Harald Kranz, is condensing as a trend. In particular, the "slate imitation" variant appears to meet the taste of customers. Roberto Bongiovanni, Deputy Head of Application Technology, Application Consulting and Training at Zero-Lack, explains this as follows: "As a trend, we are looking for more and more unusual options to make a surface look like a one-off. The decorative filler "MagicTouch", for example, gives the surface a velvety-metallic effect; The metallic pigments can be traversed by simple stain filling. Even a deceptively real slate look can be achieved if a few points are implemented.”To do this, Zero“MagicTouch”is first pulled onto the surface with the Venetian trowel covering the entire surface. After drying, tape off a stone offset in the desired width. The same filler is now applied diagonally to the surface with the trowel at irregular, close intervals as slabs of approx. 1 cm in height and 10 cm in length. Slightly smooth in one direction while still moist, creating a slate look. Subtle and extravagant Markus Wedel, Product Manager Decorative Interior Wall Techniques at Caparol, recommends craftsmen to offer their discerning customers designs with subtle, reserved effects, such as walls with a noble mother-of-pearl shimmer. The iridescent, silky shine of shells can be easily created with "Capadecor Stucco Eleganza" using the smoothing technique. The painter applies the pasty material with a short-pile roller and smoothes it off after a short flash-off with the Venetian trowel.
