In general, dirty water must not get into the ground! Each municipality has separate regulations for discharge and disposal. The painter must clarify this with the local authorities in advance.

It is customary to collect, filter and then discharge dirty water via a tub system. If cleaning agents are used, they must be neutralized beforehand. The minimum requirement is an introduction to the sewage system.

It is necessary to wash off the facade if older coatings are soiled or covered with microorganisms or if so-called chalking occurs in the paint film due to binder degradation. Older facade surfaces can have damaged areas, such as cracks in the surface, caused by tension and weather, or damage by mechanical influences.

When cleaning an old ETICS system, it is important to use only a moderate water pressure of max. 60 bar. This prevents the surface from becoming too saturated with moisture. Some devices press over 200 bar, a thrust of 20 Newtons per mm² hits the facade! It is understandable that damage occurs with this force and existing damage can be increased. It can hardly be determined how much and how deeply water is pressed into the finest cracks. If this moisture cannot dry out completely, there is a risk of frost damage in colder seasons.

The consequence is too short a waiting time between washing up and painting. The residual moisture in the substrate must be completely dry, otherwise there will be cracks and flaking when re-coating. In the case of surfaces insulated with polystyrene, care must be taken when hot water cleaning that hot water at a maximum of 60 ° C is used and that it does not remain in one place for too long to avoid damage to these panels. The nozzle pressure and the amount of water determine the impact pressure with the spraying distance and angle. It should be taken into account here that large amounts of water also generate high impact pressures. These must be appropriately regulated according to the surface. The appropriate nozzles and the correct distance to the surface are important, usually 15 to 30 cm. The rotating point jet gland must not be used in thermal insulation facades due to the very high impact pressure.

Before cleaning, preliminary tests should be carried out to test the reaction of the facade materials to different pressures, temperatures and cleaning agents. Electrical systems on the facade must be switched off and protected. When using cleaning agents, cleaning is carried out from bottom to top. In the case of strongly absorbent substrates, wet the surface so that the cleaning agent cannot penetrate the capillary so strongly to prevent efflorescence.
