Lime sandstone exposed masonry with smooth or structured surface offers many design options on the outside and inside walls.
Lime sand facing bricks and facing bricks according to DIN V 106-2 are used for outdoor areas without plastering, with special requirements for masonry exposed to the weather. Limestone facing bricks, which are often used in the basement entrance, on retaining walls or heavily structured masonry, require KS bricks with the highest frost resistance and must be manufactured with very low dimensional tolerances in the area of dimensions and optical properties. With smooth KS facing bricks, an edge-clean runner and head side is required. KS outer walls must be water-draining and on the top against penetrating water, e.g. B. be protected by covers. The adhesive mortar joints of weathered masonry should be flush with the front edge of the sand-lime brick. This is an important prerequisite for durable surface treatments. Lime sandstones according to DIN V 106-1 can be used for interior masonry, which are not exposed to frost and for which there are no requirements regarding the appearance of the edges. The surface treatment in terms of painting technology serves the creative effect and forms additional weather protection outdoors. Colorless, hydrophobic coatings do not form a film and leave the exposed masonry with the natural appearance of the stones and joints. Covering coatings make the masonry appear flat. Both types of paint reduce the moisture absorption of the KS exposed masonry outdoors and counteract contamination. Impregnations and coatings do not have the taskCovering or eliminating design errors or structural defects subsequently.
Conclusion
Only coatings that do not significantly reduce the water vapor diffusion ability compared to the untreated stone are suitable for KS external masonry, such as Zero's dispersion silicate paints, silicone resin paints or the colorless hydrophobic impregnation. Almost all common coating materials can be used for KS interior masonry.
