Mold refurbishment opens up a new market for everyone who wants to open another business area. But that's not all. The necessary specialist knowledge is a prerequisite for success. The use of excellent materials does not automatically mean that a renovation in the mold area also delivers the desired result. As with all things, the necessary specialist knowledge is also important here, so that trying to repair mold does not just turn into short-term cosmetics. Thanks to their very good suction properties, calcium silicate sheets can absorb moisture quickly and in large quantities from both the surface and the surface. Since mold absolutely needs moisture to survive, the board is therefore able to prevent the growing conditions, so that the use of this board alone can make a renovation successful. Since spores can be distributed very well on the premises due to their delicacy, care should be taken from the outset to prevent excessive spore flight. This can be achieved, for example, by masking with foils, painting with emulsion paints or a deep primer, or at least by moistening the walls with water. A wet surface is unable to release its spores, so there is an inexpensive way to prevent spore flight. For mold remediation, it is essential to at least remove the affected surface. If the moisture source is not on the surface (condensation), but is caused, for example, by a defective downpipe in the outside area, there is a possibility that the plaster is affected over the entire thickness. Here it must be removed completely. When attaching the calcium silicate panels, care should be taken to ensure that the adhesive is as void-free as possible. The plaster used for this (here Baumit AS 2 in 1 plaster) is applied in a slim consistency and combed with a toothed trowel (10 to 12 millimeter teeth). The slim consistency does not allow the area to be leveled. For this reason, it must be checked beforehand whether the surfaces are sufficiently flat and can therefore be coated directly. If this is not the case, it must be balanced beforehand. When gluing the panels, the joints must also be completely closed with the plaster to prevent condensation. Even smaller voids in the subsurface can always serve as condensation traps in which mold is deposited. For this reason, the panels should not only be seen as an inexpensive way of bridging irregularities in the subsurface at the same time as the renovation, such as an unlocked electrical slot or a socket. Only clean preparatory work can prevent damage. Even if calcium silicate panels sometimes do not have exceptionally good insulation properties, they always act as light internal insulation. For this reason, it must be checked in advance to what extent the covering of the outer walls can cause physical problems. When planning, the thermal bridge catalog should therefore be observed in order to include the integrating walls, floor and ceiling in the renovation if necessary. If this is not done, or is not done to a sufficient extent, mold will appear on previously unpolluted surfaces. Heating niches that may not be included in the renovation for “convenience reasons” are subsequently at risk of mold. The window or the reveal of the window is often not given sufficient attention. If it is not possible to set a calcium silicate plate due to the remaining small distance between the reveal and the window sash, you often leave this area because you are reluctant to pry off the plaster in the reveal. Subsequent damage clearly shows that this effort would have been worthwhile. If a reveal panel is used, a silicone joint is often inserted between the panel and the window frame for optical reasons. Here the mold has optimal opportunities to grow on these areas again. For this reason, it is necessary to be clear in advance about the building physics problems during the renovation in order to enable the calcium silicate panels to be glued continuously by means of appropriate preliminary work. A compact design was deliberately chosen when developing these calcium silicate sheets. This not only reduces the risk of condensate problems due to the higher thermal conductivity of the plates, but also improves handling and processing. Since the plates are stable in themselves, they are very easy to transport,without constantly breaking the plates. If the calcium silicate panels are glued and any joints in the panel / wall area are sanded, the surfaces can be provided with a primer that enables plastering. Attention should be paid here to which materials and which processing methods the manufacturer approves, since there are differences in the respective systems. Both reinforcing fillers with top plaster and only one top plaster layer can be found on offer. The plate coating must be coordinated with the entire system. Depending on customer requirements, you can choose between felted or smoothed surfaces, so that almost all design requirements can be taken into account. Wallpapering the surface should be avoided if possible. But if this is absolutely desired,care should be taken that the wallpapering work is only carried out after the construction has completely dried out. Wallpaper must not prevent the vapor permeability, so fiberglass wallpaper or the like should not be used.
