The painting company "Der Grüne" from Hard near Bregenz has been going its own way for years. Company owner Christian Micheluzzi always tries to put his - often very demanding - ideas into practice. Most recently, he envisioned offering complete, seamless bathrooms, from the floor to the walls to the sanitary objects. For some time now, these have also been part of his portfolio.

Resting on what has been achieved is not Christian Micheluzzi's business. The agile Austrian is constantly trying to optimize something in his company. This is how the idea arose to offer complete seamless bathrooms. The painting company Micheluzzi has been anything but ordinary for years. Christian Micheluzzi's father Kurt had already made a name for himself in the industry because he carried out facade work instead of from the scaffolding using a work platform. The junior continues this tradition. "Of course we don't do everything with the work platform," says the 43-year-old. “If several trades have to go to the facade, a scaffold is more profitable. In most cases, however, the facades are only painted and then the working platform is just the thing. "It allows spontaneity in execution, is a lot cheaper,Doesn’t bother gardening in summer and customers particularly appreciate one thing: “When the painting work is done, we’re gone too,” smiles Christian Micheluzzi. The house and garden can be used immediately as usual. The beautiful new facade immediately shows its best side.
In search of something special
Some would perhaps sit back and relax if they could take over a family business that already has a unique selling point. Not Christian Micheluzzi. When the young Vorarlberger returned to his parents' business from the Stuttgart technical school in 1998 at the age of 22 as a freshly baked master and specialist, he moved up to become the second managing director of the painting company "Der Grüne" and founded the creative department "Il Verde".. Only four years later he took over the company's agendas as the sole managing director.
Although Micheluzzi has a lot going on during this time, one thought does not let him go. He would like to offer his customers handcrafted surfaces made from natural materials, but not exclusively rely on the common products of the "big" manufacturers. Once again, "the green" is looking for a unique selling point. Christian Micheluzzi recalls that he always went to Italy with a friend from the master school over the weekend to get in touch with producers based there to try out and buy their products. "And that, even though we didn't speak a word of Italian," says the Austrian, who even has Italian roots, laughing and adding: "We slept in the car". Back then it was not a luxury vacation, but the trips were worth it.
Seamless: naturally beautiful surfaces
Finally in 2010 the time had come: Christian Micheluzzi founded the “Terraviva” branch, which still exists today. "The Green" not only offers its customers the design of walls and floors with natural, noble materials. The portfolio also includes entire bathrooms, kitchens or pieces of furniture. With the purely mineral products of the "SoloCalce" brand, which Matthias Wagner was selling from Stuttgart in Germany at the time, Christian Micheluzzi found lime materials that met his requirements after an extensive search.
Christian Micheluzzi has a knack for surface design, a sense of form and color, and in particular the craftsmanship for demanding work. The Vorarlberg proved this during his apprenticeship. In 1995 he not only won the Austrian title, but also the world champion title at the professional Olympics in Lyon.
Focus on training
The training of his apprentices is still very important to Christian Micheluzzi today. "The only thing that currently worries me is that the skilled labor market has been swept empty," says the Vorarlberg resident. He has sufficient orders, but there is a shortage of personnel who can carry them out. That is why the focus is so much on training our own specialists. In the "green", the youngsters learn according to a system developed by Christian Micheluzzi, which is adapted to the latest state of the art. Because the apprentices are challenged and learn early on to take responsibility themselves, self-confidence grows with the technical skills. This always inspires new performance. A bonus system also rewards young people for personal commitment during their training. You can see that the concept works,that trainees from the green are always at the forefront in state, federal and Olympic competitions.
From painter to manufacturer
Due to the intensive cooperation with his supplier Matthias Wagner, the Austrian and the Swabian soon became friends. Together they visit trade fairs and continuously optimize the "SoloCalce" products. As the desire for seamless, easy-care surfaces in application areas was increasingly brought up to both the sales professional and the craftsman, for whom “organic” and “100 percent mineral” did not work, the two developed another product line in 2014. With the “SoloTecnica” surface system, the gap between open-pore, purely mineral surfaces with the highest standards of naturalness and health and seamless floor and wall coatings with the highest resilience was closed.
For Matthias Wagner, who with his company "Vivere LebensRäume" - now located in a former sawmill in Bad Waldsee - increasingly specializes in holistic natural building, the lime material product line will soon become too extensive. During a joint visit to the fair, he tells Christian Micheluzzi that he
would like to cede the sales of "SoloCalce".
Micheluzzi does not think long and takes over the lime factory. The move to Hard will take place in summer 2018. From this point on, Christian Micheluzzi was also the managing director of the lime factory "SoloManufactur". Wagner remains with the company as a consultant in the technical area and in product development.
Garden and bath park
Moving to the painting business opens up new opportunities. In Hard, for example, the factory has additional training and exhibition rooms. The distribution of the materials alone is not enough for Micheluzzi, he wants them to be used professionally. Especially because it now offers complete seamless bathrooms. In addition to the surface design, he now also offers the corresponding sanitary objects (bathtubs, sinks, floor-level showers) and their installation. The clever Austrian presents how easy it is to do in an exhibition room in the basement of the painting company. The finished parts made of a special plastic, which he has made in Italy,are mounted on matching substructures - the latter was developed by Micheluzzi himself in order to simplify the cooperation between the various trades (installer, screed layer, surface designer). According to Micheluzzi, knowledge of plumbing is not necessary for installation, but he definitely recommends training.
While the training rooms meet all requirements, the master painter is looking for suitable options to present the bathrooms that he has created entirely. In 2018, a pool and garden park will open in Hard on the company grounds of the green. Potential customers will find several fully equipped bathrooms in three truck containers. In addition to the Italian bathroom interior, you can see all the surface designs that the creative line "Il Verde" has to offer. The matching accessories and harmonious lighting ensure that the bathrooms appear "real", almost inhabited and inviting. The containers are embedded in a small garden park that invites you to linger. The park is now also being used for company parties, says Christian Micheluzzi.
Exceptional orders
The Austrian does not have to worry about the occupancy of his bathing division. "As a rule, we work here within a radius of around 40 kilometers," says Micheluzzi. B. luxury chalets, hotels and boutiques. Then his employees and he are "out of the house" for several days, which is not ideal, especially in his case. This is one of the reasons why “the Green” is looking for partner companies that want to get started with bathroom fittings. "If I get a request that I cannot or do not want to handle at the moment, I would then transfer the order to a partner company in the respective region," explains Micheluzzi the concept.

Since quality plays a leading role in Christian Micheluzzi's company, his partner companies should "tick" like him. It quickly became clear to Micheluzzi that he had to offer his partner companies something in order to find the "right" companies. The partner companies therefore not only receive extensive training in all aspects of bathroom design, but also benefit from attractive conditions, marketing campaigns and processing tips. And last but not least, Micheluzzi has created its own premium brand: the master hands. Under this brand, products are offered that go beyond the "SoloManufactur" range and are reserved exclusively for premium partners. In addition to the content, the corporate design was also of great importance to Micheluzzi for his “Meisterhände” products. That is why all premium partners receive specially created containers with the Meisterhände logo.
Noble design
"This not only looks very high quality, but also makes the product not interchangeable," explains Christian Micheluzzi. These products may be processed exclusively by the partner companies. This makes it more difficult, if not impossible, for a customer to go to another painting company with the offer of a partner company and then place the order 1 to 1.
The network will start in November 2019. The number of partner companies is not the main focus, says Micheluzzi, for him class is more important than quantity. But the exchange between them is in the center of his attention and therefore he is always open to like-minded people in the entire German-speaking area - and gladly beyond.
